I Saw Jesus!

Well, I actually did! Not him really, but I saw an ultra large statue of him today. Lance and I traveled with our program to the top of a mountain about an hour outside of Guanajuato to a place called Cristo Rey, or Christ the King. There stands a rather large statue of Jesus. Take a look for yourself!

The trip up there was extremely intense. We departed Plaza de la Paz at around 5:00 PM and got up to the statue around 6. We took the highway out of the city, however, once we got to Silao, the highway turned into a old cobblestone road. This extremely windy and narrow road (with no guard rails) took us to the top of the mountain. It's so narrow that cars heading in the other direction have to move over and stop to allow other cars to pass. Once we got to the top, we spent 40 minutes looking around before heading back to Guanajuato.

Before heading to Cristo Rey, Lance and I had a wonderful dining adventure. Since we had to be in the Plaza to catch the bus up to Cristo Rey two hours after school ended, we decided that we would eat in the center instead of going all the way back home. We chose Casa Valadez, which is known as Guanajuato's swankiest and best restaurant. Indeed, it was elegant. We had three waiters attending to us and that made the service amazing. I had a wonderful Milanesa de Pollo (a very thin friend chicken breast) with rice and french fries. Lance had the "Burger Texano" which looked amazing ... and I don't even like meat. Both of us at there for about $20 total including tip ... and this is one of the fanciest of restaurants! Lance and I will be splurging there again.

Well, this will most likely be my last blog post before I head to the wilds of Michoacan on Friday for my trip to waterfalls, volcanoes, and who knows what else. I am really looking forward to it! I will be sure to tell you all about it when I get back on Sunday.

Also, a note about photos. TelMex, the one and only phone and DSL provider here in la Republica Mexicana, has been experiencing some problems. So, uploading photos has been a long process. Rest assured, all photos should be updated by 11:00 PM Atlanta time.

Just want to say what a great blog you got here!
I've been around for quite a lot of time, but finally decided to show my appreciation of your work!

Thumbs up, and keep it going!
